Street Banners go up in Penrhiwceiber, Miskin and Perthcelyn
If you drive through the villages of Penrhiwceiber, Miskin and
Perthcelyn after the 6th of July, you will notice
something a little different. To celebrate the summer, and to
help brighten up our streets, 5 local primary schools have been
involved in a project to create 5 street banners which will be
decorating lamp-posts across the area.
At the end of May, artist Dianne Murphy visited Penrhiwceibr
Primary School, Perthcelyn Community Primary School, Miskin
Primary School, Our Lady’s Primary School and Pengeulan Primary
School, where she worked with the children to create designs for
the banners.
The banners feature images of local buildings, symbols and one
features the Penrhiwceiber Paddling Pool, which celebrates its
50th anniversary this summer.
“The children were very excited to be part of such a public
project” said Paul Morgan, Headmaster of Pengeulan Primary
School, “it is great that they are able to show how proud they
are of their community, and by having their work on show to the
public, the community can show how proud they are of their young
people”.
All 5 banners will be put up in time for the Penrhiwceiber
Carnival on Saturday 7th of July.
This project was organised and supported by Creative Communities
and the Penrhiwceiber Strategy Group.
Creative Communities is an arts based capacity building
programme funded by Communities First and Objective 1.

PACT - Partnerships and Communities
Together
PACT meetings allow local people to
identify the issues that they would like the police and partners
to address. The regular PACT meetings generate three priorities
that will be dealt with by police and partners. Local
people are then encouraged to become involved in providing the
solution to the identified priorities.
The last PACT meeting for Penrhiwceiber/Perthcelyn/Miskin
was held on 3rd April 2007 at 6pm, and the next will be at the
beginning of June.
The priorities from the last meeting at
Penrhiwceiber were -
- Speeding in Penrhiwceiber
- White lines on the road in
Penrhiwceiber
- Ward wide letter
